Bitget CEO Gracy Chen, along with various analysts and security researchers, said the attack was likely linked to North Korea, specifically pointing to the Lazarus Group or related factions.
The company clarified that private keys were not compromised and were not directly stolen through them. The attackers managed to breach backend systems and internal infrastructure to divert the funds. Bitget temporarily suspended withdrawals as an emergency measure to contain the breach, and it assured users it has protection funds to safeguard them while definitive forensic investigations move forward.
