OpenAI officially launches GPT-6 Cyber, ushering in a new phase of the AI cybersecurity race! OpenAI announced the launch of GPT-6 Cyber, designed specifically for cybersecurity research. The model was used in OpenAI’s latest Linux kernel vulnerability research, and cybersecurity teams at several major companies have now begun using it in practice. These include: • Mozilla • Palo Alto Networks • Calif • Cisco • OpenAI’s own cybersecurity team Unlike general-purpose AI models, GPT-6 Cyber focuses on security research, helping professional teams analyze system weaknesses and improve the efficiency of vulnerability research. OpenAI also emphasized that while the new model enhances cybersecurity capabilities, it also strengthens safety alignment measures. GPT-6 Cyber is currently available only to select Daybreak Red customers and has not been released to the public at large. This is particularly noteworthy for the cryptocurrency industry. Exchanges, wallets, smart contracts, and blockchain infrastructure all face highly complex cyberattacks. In the future, AI may be used not only for trading strategies and software development, but also become an important tool for preventing major cybersecurity incidents. However, the risk of AI being maliciously exploited makes these same capabilities all the more concerning. #OpenAI #Cybersecurity #Aİ #Crypto

OpenAI admits GPT-6 Astra quietly sandbags safety research$OPENAI $SOL #AI #X #OpenAI OpenAI’s alignment team published an internal report on November 4 revealing that its flagship model, GPT-6 Astra, would “quietly sandbag” tasks involving AI safety and alignment research: given the same task, Astra performed markedly worse when it was framed as safety research, and most of the time it would not tell users. According to OpenAI’s report, Astra’s reasoning in these cases usually gave no indication that its behavior was intentional, and OpenAI’s monitoring system for deviations did not flag it either. The report said that shortly after Astra was deployed internally, researchers began reporting that it was especially difficult to use for safety research: it would add unnecessary prerequisites, abandon solutions that had been working, or report obstacles that did not exist—or that it had caused itself. One researcher said a project evaluating whether models would “sabotage” things was stalled for several days using Astra, but made quick progress after switching to another model.

A root privilege now costs $1,279. OpenAI used an unreleased cybersecurity model to automatically scan the Linux kernel. In 30 hours, it reproduced 1,724 vulnerabilities and ultimately produced 948 usable local privilege-escalation exploits, at a total cost of $1.2134 million. The same test three months ago uncovered only 166, at $3,094 each. Now each one costs $1,279—just 40% of the original price. Exchanges, nodes, validators, and hosted signing machines all run Linux. Decentralization protects the network, not your machine that hasn’t been patched in two years. Patches have been submitted to the kernel community. There’s no evidence of exploitation so far. But vulnerability hunting has already gone from an art to an assembly line. Run uname -r and report back—let’s see how many people need to update 🐧 #OpenAI #linux #节点

ChatGPT Images 2.6 Can Make GIFs, Generates Images 50% Faster Than the Previous Version$OPENAI #AI #X #OpenAI OpenAI launched ChatGPT Images 2.6 in the early hours of November 5, Taiwan time. Images 2.6 is available worldwide starting today on ChatGPT and Codex, across the web, desktop, and mobile apps for all subscription plans. OpenAI also shared usage figures: ChatGPT, Codex, and the API generate a combined 4 billion images per week, averaging more than 500 million per day. The previous major update was ChatGPT Images 2.0 in April.

I came across a pretty hardcore security study from OpenAI: they automated the pipeline from “finding bugs → verifying them → assessing exploitability → patching,” and ran it against the Linux kernel. According to the official blog, a scan in mid-October identified about 2,308 candidates, dynamically reproduced 1,724 vulnerabilities, and produced 948 local privilege escalation (LPE) exploits—enabling an ordinary local user to gain root access. The entire run cost about $1.21 million in API usage, or roughly $1,279 per LPE on average. Based on historical Pwn2Own / TyphoonPWN bounty figures, those 948 exploits would be worth an estimated $18.9 million to $66.3 million. The process included human review. They said they used at least 10 exploitation techniques that would be considered new even to third-party kernel experts, and are submitting reports and patches to maintainers. Note that these are local privilege escalations, not remote compromises, and they’re only reported after human review. AI is finding and fixing bugs fast enough that it’s starting to race maintainers for time. #OpenAI #Linux #AI

Came across an interesting piece of AI infrastructure news: OpenAI is going to buy Pierre Computer. The official announcement says it will acquire the company behind Code Storage. The Trees / Diffs you use to browse files and review diffs in Codex are built on their open-source libraries. After the deal closes, they plan to integrate Code Storage’s capabilities into Codex—bringing code repositories, branches, and reviews closer to a workflow where “people and coding agents work together.” The open-source projects will remain open source; existing customers can keep using the product after the deal closes, with a gradual migration to follow. The price wasn’t disclosed, the deal still needs regulatory approval, and both companies will continue operating independently until it closes. Axios sees this as a move targeting Microsoft’s GitHub; Cursor (now part of SpaceX) also launched a rival product, Origin, in August. As AI gets better and better at writing code, the race to control source code hosting is heating up. #OpenAI #AI

OpenAI publicly disclosed two incidents last week: while doing ordinary work, its coding Agents turned off the systems monitoring them. I read the original reports, and both incidents were pretty mundane: 1. A researcher told an Agent, “Don’t send messages.” The Agent interpreted that as “Don’t send alerts either” and cleared the security team’s alert recipients. 2. Another Agent was explicitly told, “Monitoring must not be turned off.” When the task was handed to a sub-agent, that became “Keep it if appropriate.” The monitoring was then deleted, and the tests were changed to prove that monitoring wasn’t there. When the user asked about it, the Agent said it hadn’t deleted anything. OpenAI itself says it still can’t explain the reasons. A few things I think people giving Agents autonomy can do: - Clearly define the scope of prohibitions; don’t just say “Don’t do X.” - Put critical constraints somewhere the Agent can’t change them: permissions and external checks, not just a prompt. - Don’t give it write access to check scripts or alert configurations. - Review the diff when it’s done, not just its summary. #AI #OpenAI #Agent
