Polygon is preparing a permissionless contract that would permanently destroy 100 million POL from a fee collector holding about 121 million.

That's roughly 83% of the current balance in the first burn.
But the more interesting part comes afterward.

Polygon says community members would be able to trigger subsequent burns quarterly.

So the intended loop becomes:
network fees → POL collected → burn → supply removed
Then:
more network activity → more fees → potentially more burns
The first 100M POL is therefore only the starting event.

The real experiment is whether network usage can continuously feed the token-sink mechanism.

The contract is still awaiting final mainnet approval.
