AI COULD BECOME A NEW THREAT TO CRYPTO SECURITY. 👀
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin is warning that rapid AI progress in mathematical research could eventually weaken some of the cryptographic systems protecting Bitcoin, Ethereum and other blockchains.
And this isn't just about quantum computing anymore.
The bigger concern is that AI could discover mathematical shortcuts much faster than humans expect.
🔐 ECDSA — used by Bitcoin and Ethereum wallets
🧠 ML-DSA & lattice cryptography — newer security approaches
🔒 FHE — fully homomorphic encryption
Vitalik's warning is serious, but there is an important point:
There is NO evidence that Bitcoin or Ethereum wallets have been cracked. This is a potential future threat, not a current exploit.
He also says users shouldn't panic or suddenly move their funds. Rushed wallet migrations can create their own risks, including phishing, mistakes and compromised seed phrases.
What makes this story interesting is the timeline.
Vitalik believes AI-driven advances in mathematics over the next two years could significantly challenge assumptions around lattice-based cryptography. Ethereum's long-term roadmap is already moving toward greater use of hash-based cryptography.
So the crypto security race may be changing:
Quantum computing vs crypto was yesterday's big concern.
AI + mathematics vs cryptography could become the next one. 🤖🔐
For now, don't panic.
But definitely keep an eye on cryptographic upgrades, wallet security and developer announcements.
The strongest blockchains won't just need to scale.
They'll need to stay secure against whatever comes next.
