Mohsen Rezaei said that Tehran will first try to convince neighbors not to join US pressure
Iran has threatened to strike at the interests of countries that join the US economic campaign against Tehran. Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Mohsen Rezaei said that if sanctions are maintained, Tehran may block oil exports not only through the Strait of Hormuz, which is already closed, but from the entire Persian Gulf in general. According to Rezaei, Tehran does not seek to expand the war, but considers the participation of other states in the economic pressure of the United States as a direct threat to its own interests. He called on neighboring countries and other countries of the world not to join the American economic campaign against Iran.
The Iranian official said that in the event of the introduction of restrictions against Tehran, such a country will first be tried to persuade to abandon this policy. After negotiations, according to him, Iran may proceed to actions against the interests of the state that supported Washington.
"Any country that joins in imposing economic restrictions against us will be considered an enemy by us," Rezai said.
Threat to block oil from the entire Gulf
Rezaei also warned of the possible extension of the blockade to the entire Persian Gulf. Iran has already closed the Strait of Hormuz and, according to the official, does not currently plan to open it until the US fulfills its obligations. If neighboring countries support the economic blockade of Iran, Tehran will not allow oil to be exported by any route from the region.
“If they start doing this, we will not allow a single drop of oil to be taken out – not just through the Strait of Hormuz, but from the Persian Gulf in general,” he said.
Rezaei also warned the US against building up its military presence in the region. “We advise the Americans not to build up their military presence – if they do, we will strike. We will attack every encounter with counter-revolutionary elements. Our strikes are now targeted,” he said.
The statements came amid a standoff over the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global oil supplies. Iran and Oman had previously agreed on the geographical coordinates of a proposed route for safe passage of commercial vessels through the strait, but Tehran stressed that this agreement in itself did not mean the full restoration of free navigation.
