#SAMSUNGUSDT The ex-dividend adjustment is approaching, and the easiest detail to misread is “KRW 4,500 per share”: this is Binance’s temporary dividend estimate for its TradFi perpetual contract, not Samsung’s final dividend that has already been finalized, and it is certainly not cash you can claim risk-free by opening a contract. Binance’s September 28 announcement points to 08:00 Korea time on September 29, which is 07:00 Beijing time today, for the contract net position adjustment.
First, the timeline. Binance said Samsung Electronics’ final amount has not yet been determined, so it is using an estimate of KRW 4,500 per share. Its general method for Korean stock perpetual contracts states: at 07:30 Korea time on the ex-dividend date, the contract enters reduce-only mode and tightens the deviation threshold between mark price and index price; at 08:00, a special dividend funding fee is executed after the regular funding fee; at 08:01, the related restrictions are lifted. Converted to Beijing time, these are 06:30, 07:00, and 07:01 respectively. This is the process announced by the platform. As of the time this article was published, settlement has not yet occurred, and the specific status should still be based on the contract page and actual records.
The first key point is direction. According to Binance’s method, the special funding fee corresponding to a cash dividend is negative, paid from short positions to long positions, designed to offset the natural price drop when the underlying goes ex-dividend. It is not a dividend paid out of a Samsung stock account, and it also cannot be counted as pure profit just because a contract was opened: the underlying price, contract price, leverage, and regular funding fees will all affect the final profit and loss. The estimated KRW amount per share also cannot be directly converted into a fixed USDT amount received per contract.
The second key point is limits. Binance clearly states that this special adjustment is not subject to the usual funding rate cap or floor, so the potential cash flow may be larger than the regular funding fee traders are used to. Estimating the cost of this position using the normal funding rate cap would miss the most important risk.
The third key point is post-event verification. If Samsung’s final announced dividend differs from the KRW 4,500 estimate, Binance says it will reconcile and adjust the difference within one week after the final amount is announced; this does not mean the final number is known at 07:00 today. The next step is to verify Samsung’s official amount, Binance’s actual special funding fee record, and any later adjustment record.
