Pantera's take here is pretty sharp; they're throwing a bucket of cold water on the hot RWA hype. They believe that while the market size has surged to 321 billion—up 60%—it's still in the phase of just 'moving paper media online', lacking that on-chain soul.
In plain terms, most of the tokenization we're seeing is just traditional assets wrapped in a blockchain shell. Aside from making it a bit easier to buy US Treasuries, there hasn’t been any groundbreaking innovation. Sure, the narrative from institutions is nice to hear, but if liquidity efficiency doesn’t fundamentally change, it’s just a different place to sit on the same assets. This heavy asset sector might seem stable, but in reality, it’s slow; it’s the classic 'looks tasty, but burns your mouth'.
Do you all think RWA is truly the future of finance, or just a self-congratulatory story spun by institutions to hit their KPIs?
