🎰 1000x leverage: the price only has to move 0.1% against you for you to lose everything. And this product just launched.
📌 The facts (Oct. 15–16, 2026)
• Jupiter (Solana) launches “YOLO” in beta: go long or short on SOL,
$BTC and ETH with 500x to 1000x leverage, starting with a stake of around $5–10
• No audit, no stop-loss, no take-profit. You’re playing against “the house”: if its reserves run low, your winnings may be put in a queue
• On the same day, trader “Machi” is liquidated on Hyperliquid: his account fell from a peak of $12.25M to around $21,800, according to Lookonchain. He had started with $56,000 four months earlier
• Seven minutes later, he reopens a
$ETH long position with 25x leverage
• Context: hot US CPI (3.7% year over year), BTC fell below $80,000, then rebounded to around $82,300 this morning
🧠 How it works
Leverage means trading with money “lent” by the platform. At 1000x, $1 controls $1,000. If the price moves 0.1% against you, your stake is wiped out: automatic liquidation.
Example: over 24 hours, BTC moved by about 3.5% (from around $79,800 to $82,600). At 1000x, that’s about 35 times the liquidation threshold.
⚖️ The nuance
Leverage isn’t inherently “forbidden” or “bad”: professionals use 2x–3x to hedge. The problem is when it becomes a game of chance presented as trading. Even Jupiter says: “don’t bet your life savings.”
👤 Seydou sells top-up cards in Ouagadougou. He has 10,000 FCFA set aside. Option A: buy a little BTC every month (DCA) and wait. Option B: 1000x to “double up fast.” With option B, a single candle lasting a few minutes is enough to wipe everything out.
✅ Takeaway: making money is great. Keeping what you’ve made is the real game.
