President Trump has signed an executive order that overrides state level AI laws, setting the stage for major legal fights across the country.
His view is simple. Tech companies cannot grow if they have to follow 50 different rulebooks. States like California and Colorado already have their own AI safety rules, which slows companies down and creates confusion.
Under the order, the Attorney General will form a legal team within 30 days to challenge state laws the administration believes hold back innovation. The Commerce Secretary has 90 days to review state rules around transparency and bias checks.
States that refuse to align could even lose federal broadband funding. Trump argues the US needs one clear national framework to stay competitive with China.
