The bridge between Base and Solana is activated with protection by Chainlink and Coinbase.

The Base network officially announced the launch of a direct bridge with the Solana blockchain this Thursday (4). The novelty operates on the mainnet and allows the seamless movement of bitcoin and cryptocurrencies between the two ecosystems. The technology features the security of Chainlink's CCIP protocol and the infrastructure of Coinbase.

The solution enables developers to support Solana assets in their applications on Base. Users gain the ability to trade crypto assets from the neighboring network without leaving the Base environment. Communities from both networks can access shared liquidity immediately.

The bridge is already available for technical integration by developers. Popular applications like Zora, Aerodrome, Virtuals, Flaunch, and Relay have started to open usage to the general public. The list of supported assets includes tokens like SOL, CHILLHOUSE, and TRENCHER.

Security reinforced by oracles and independent nodes

The integrity of transactions depends on a robust verification system. The bridge utilizes the Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) from Chainlink through a custom oracle.

Coinbase works together in validating the messages exchanged between the networks. Coinbase and Chainlink node operators independently verify each transfer of digital assets.

This dual mechanism aims to ensure that the transfer of tokens between Base and Solana occurs securely and reliably. The technical architecture seeks to mitigate common risks in cross-chain bridges.

The initiative reflects Base's core value of acting as a bridge and not as an isolated island. The declared goal is to facilitate the movement of assets at internet speed. The connection allows discovering new applications regardless of the blockchain they were built on.

The bridge opens a range of possibilities for the virtual assets ecosystem. Anyone can deposit and use SOL in Base applications or import assets from Solana. Exporting assets from Base to Solana also becomes feasible.

Developers on Base can integrate the bridge to provide native support for SOL and SPL tokens. Users can trade and utilize assets across different chains through integrated applications. The tool allows assets to be tradable and usable on both networks simultaneously.

The Base-Solana bridge code is open-source and available on GitHub. Any programmer can access the documentation and integrate the solution into their projects on the mainnet.

Base positions this launch as an important step towards becoming a global economic hub. The connection with Solana represents only the beginning of a broader interoperability strategy for bitcoin and cryptocurrencies.
