Glance at mainstream semiconductor names: in NVDA and AMD’s contract market you often see positive or negative funding bouncing around. Over here with $GPRO , it’s dead quiet. The price is moving, but the funding rate stays frozen. That combo is uncommon.

Looking only at the two signals—price and funding—I think $GPRO is currently stuck in a trendless stalemate. A 5% drop hasn’t pulled the funding down, which suggests there’s no clear one-sided bet building in the contract market. The longs haven’t reached the level where they need to pay the shorts to maintain positions, and the shorts aren’t nervous enough to actively pay to suppress the price. Current open interest is 567,000 contracts, with a trading volume of 2.46 million—this isn’t a very thick order book. The drop hasn’t come with funding changing; it looks more like a slow decline with no counterpart pressure, or spot selling pressure hitting before sentiment in derivatives reacts. In this kind of tape, the usual “down + positive funding = longs trapped” framework temporarily fails, because funding is zero.

Old dog’s stance is very clear: don’t touch it now. On the other hand, if price keeps sliding on low volume, that means there’s no real support underneath, and I’ll simply remove this from my watchlist.

The easiest way my view could be wrong is if the contract market suddenly changes its face. If over the next few hours $GPRO ’s funding rate quickly turns negative and holds there—while price stops falling and even rebounds—then it becomes a classic script of “shorts overcrowded, before a squeeze.” In that case, the stalemate judgment above completely breaks down, and what needs reassessing is the long setup. Conversely, if funding turns positive and the price keeps dropping, then it means the longs are fighting back in stubborn resistance—you’d need to watch for liquidation orders that could smash the price even lower.
