$ESPORTS (ESPORTSUSDT) has fallen 51.284% in 24 hours, and the current price is 0.02581. For small-cap altcoins, this is no longer a normal pullback—it’s a high-risk phase where liquidity, leverage, and sentiment deteriorate all at once. The current open interest (OI) is 451,778,145, suggesting a large number of outstanding contracts are still piled up in the market. After the price was cut in half, there’s no reason OI should be ignored—regardless of whether the market turns long or short next, as long as liquidity continues to contract, it can trigger a chain liquidation cascade.
Even more worrying is that the funding rate is still positive, at 0.00001250. With such a drastic selloff, the funding rate hasn’t flipped meaningfully negative, which implies the market may still be seeing dip-buying by longs or some positions haven’t finished being cleared. This kind of structure doesn’t necessarily signal bullishness—instead, it could become fuel for the next leg down. If price breaks the lows again, high OI combined with a positive funding rate easily leads to more “liquidate-the-longs” scenarios; if shorts chase too aggressively, there can also be a sudden, sharp rebound. But a rebound doesn’t equal a trend reversal.
From a global news perspective, macro liquidity, expectations for the U.S. dollar, regulatory statements, and geopolitical/military risks will hit risk appetite first—especially for the smallest coins. On the political front, crypto-policy narratives tied to Trump may improve overall industry sentiment, but bullish headlines for the sector don’t automatically restore liquidity for a single token. At this time, if X-platform KOLs aggressively call for oversold dip-buying or “go short to zero,” they may amplify short-term volatility. That cannot replace confirmation from the order book.
My view is very clear: it’s not suitable to go heavy chasing knives right now, nor is it advisable to short at the end of a crash without a stop-loss. For existing long positions, you should prioritize reducing leverage, cutting position size, and setting hard stop-losses. For those currently in cash, wait until OI clearly drops, the funding rate cools, and price stops making new lows before reassessing. Aggressive traders may only consider small-amount short-term trades; absolutely no adding to average down.

For ESPORTS, will it next first complete de-leveraging, or will an oversold rebound appear?
