The final round of group-stage matches served up high stakes and storylines galore. Turkey stunned the USA 3-2 with a last-kick winner, Australia and Paraguay played out a goalless draw that sent the Socceroos through, Ivory Coast reached the World Cup knockouts for the first time by beating Curacao 2-0, Ecuador shocked Germany 2-1 to punch their own last-32 ticket, the Netherlands cruised past Tunisia 3-1, and Japan and Sweden drew 1-1 with both progressing to the knockout stage.

Turkey ended the USA's perfect group campaign in stunning fashion, winning 3-2 with a goal off the last kick of the match. The Americans, already assured of advancement, came in brimming with confidence after dominant wins over Paraguay and Australia, but found themselves in a back-and-forth battle. Turkey, needing a result to keep their own hopes alive, showed attacking intent throughout and ultimately landed the decisive blow at the death, though it wasn't enough to reach the round of 32. The USA topped Group D regardless and advance to the knockout phase.

Paraguay and Australia produced a tense, attritional affair that ended goalless, a result that suited Australia perfectly. The Socceroos, needing only a point to confirm qualification, defended with discipline and organization to grind out the draw they required. Paraguay pushed for a winner that would have lifted them above Australia but lacked cutting edge in the final third. The stalemate sent Australia through to the knockouts as Group D runners-up, while Paraguay's fate hung in the balance as one of the best third-placed teams.

Ivory Coast made history by reaching the World Cup knockout stage for the first time courtesy of a professional 2-0 win over Curacao. Nicolas Pépé was among the scorers as the Ivorians secured the victory they needed to guarantee progression from Group E. Curacao, already eliminated after heavy defeats earlier in the tournament, showed resilience but couldn't muster an equalizer. The result confirmed Ivory Coast as group runners-up behind Germany, a landmark moment for a nation long regarded as one of Africa's footballing powerhouses.

Ecuador produced the shock of the day, beating Germany 2-1 to leapfrog into the knockout stage. Plata's golden touch proved decisive as Ecuador capitalized on a German side already qualified but far from their best. The defeat was Germany's first of the tournament, and while they still topped Group E on goal difference, Ecuador's victory lifted them to four points, enough to advance as one of the best third-placed teams. It was a mature, clinical performance from a side that had looked limited going into the match.

The Netherlands powered to a 3-1 victory over Tunisia to finish Group F unbeaten and set up a last-32 meeting with Morocco. Already qualified before kick-off, the Dutch still turned in a commanding display, their attacking depth proving too much for a Tunisian side that finishes the group stage with zero points and zero goals from open play. Tunisia's lone consolation was a penalty. The Netherlands progress as group winners with seven points, their 10 goals scored the joint-highest in the tournament so far.

Japan and Sweden played out a 1-1 draw that sent both nations through to the knockout rounds. Anthony Elanga's second-half strike earned Sweden a point after Japan had taken the lead, and the result suited both sides given the broader Group F picture. Japan finish second on five points, while Sweden's four points proved enough to advance as one of the best third-placed teams. It was an open, entertaining contest between two well-matched sides who each showed enough quality to suggest they can trouble opponents in the round of 32.
