So unfortunate! A woman in Xi'an hit a male cyclist while driving. From the dashcam video, this tragedy could have been avoided.
First, the husband continuously reminded the woman to brake lightly, even after hitting the person, he was still saying those three words.
The woman operated the vehicle improperly, driving erratically while the person was already panicking. The husband's best course of action would have been to actively pull the handbrake to stop the car safely, rather than just talking without taking action.
Whether mechanical or electronic, the handbrake can be engaged if a person actively pulls it; many people mistakenly believe that the electronic handbrake cannot be used, which is a huge misconception.
Next, regarding the male cyclist, seeing the car coming straight at him, there was a small square with separation posts ahead, although another white car was blocking his view, there was still at least four to five meters of distance between them.
At this moment, his best course of action would have been to brake and wait, even if he wanted to take the risk to pass through, he should have quickly pedaled to accelerate.
However, at the moment of contact, he pulled the bicycle brake, leading to this tragedy.
Lastly, the woman herself, I personally suspect she likely just got her driver's license and is still very unfamiliar with driving.
In this situation, she should not drive directly on the main road but find a safe place to continue practicing or ask a professional for guidance; otherwise, it truly harms both others and oneself.
Of course, the occurrence of this tragedy also had coincidences, such as the cyclist appearing right in front of the vehicle, and it being on the roadside with separation posts.
If there were no separation posts blocking, after the vehicle crashed, the person would not be pinched from both sides, and the chance of survival would likely have increased significantly.
Now, a life has been lost, and the woman must also bear corresponding responsibility for this; it is truly regrettable...
