When you hear Optimum,
don’t immediately think of those 999 commemorative cards.
The cards are just a bonus;
the main course is mump2p on Ethereum.

In a nutshell:
They use RLNC, or Random Linear Network Coding,
to split blocks into random linear fragments and send them out.
Once enough fragments arrive, the block can be reconstructed.
Compared with forwarding whole blocks via Gossipsub,
the official blog says it’s on average about 2.5 to 3.5 times faster.
The Hub sample covered more than 50,000 slots,
with a speedup of a little over 300 milliseconds on average.
About 85% to 90% of blocks were accelerated.

It’s deployed as a sidecar:
a gateway runs alongside the beacon node.
It doesn’t touch validator keys
or change consensus,
and runs in parallel with the existing libp2p.

There are two product tiers:
Signal gets blocks in faster.
It’s free.
Operators connect it themselves through the Console
to reduce late and incorrect-head votes.
Accelerate makes block proposals smarter.
It requires an entity account
and roughly at least 200 active validator keys.
It provides recommended bid cutoffs to the MEV sidecar.
You configure it, run it, and deploy it yourself.
Optimum doesn’t manage your gateway for you.

The “stake” figure often shown on leaderboards and in announcements
can be easy to misunderstand.
Here, Total Value Boosted
means the nominal amount of staked ETH covered by operators running mump2p.
It’s in the range of about $3.4 billion.
The blog also gives a figure of over $3.7 billion,
so the numbers vary a bit depending on the source.
This post uses roughly the $3.4 billion figure.
It does not mean you need to stake another Optimum token to mine.
I couldn’t find an OPT staking page in the docs and blog materials reviewed for this post.
If you’re with an operator that’s already integrated,
there’s basically nothing for you to do as a user.
That’s also how the partner posts describe it.

About 16 node providers have announced integrations.
Names like Blockdaemon, Everstake, and ether.fi’s full validator set have appeared on the list.
Partners have also cited a combined total of around 1.4 million ETH
and about 22,000 keys,
representing more than roughly 3% of staked ETH.
Until publication, it’s safest to use approximate figures.

A third party has cautioned that
with one version of the gateway,
some clients were faster,
while others were unchanged or even slower.
So don’t mistake this for a guaranteed APR-boosting plugin.

TurboCards only need a brief mention:
999 cards,
commemorating the mainnet launch.
Each one corresponds to a slot that was actually accelerated.
An early batch of codes was released.
The first batch of free ones is expected to drop around 10/23 on X and Discord,
first come, first served.
If you’re interested, keep an eye on the official accounts.
The focus of this post is the network layer,
not scanning a code to claim a commemorative badge.

The DeRAM and DeROM product pages still say “pre-order.”
The faster signals for traders are still being talked up, too.
What’s live is mump2p.
Don’t describe announced features as if you can already click to use them.
