🇺🇳 UNGA 81 — Two Speeches, Two Very Different Reactions

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian addressed the UN General Assembly on September 23, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke the following day.

As Netanyahu took the podium on September 24, dozens of delegates walked out, leaving large sections of the hall empty. Reports also noted cheers and boos as he began speaking.

The walkout was a visible expression of opposition to Netanyahu’s address, but it does not mean those governments endorsed Iran or all of Pezeshkian’s positions.

The UN remains a forum where sharply different positions are publicly confronted — sometimes through speeches, and sometimes through a walkout.
