Oil fields tell you where the oil is... but pipelines tell you who controls it.
Check out the first map: oil fields. ⛽
The Middle East is full of red dots, as are Russia, West Africa, and the coasts of Brazil. There's a massive amount of oil there.
Now take a look at the second map: pipelines. 🛢️
You'll notice that the Middle East is nearly devoid of cross-border export pipeline networks. Most oil exports leave via tankers... passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
And here's one of the biggest weaknesses in the global energy system.$CL
Oil fields without pipelines remain hostage to maritime passages. And pipelines without oil fields become nothing but idle infrastructure.
Countries that own the fields, control the transport lines, and manage the strategic passages between them are the ones with real influence in the global energy market.
Today, one of these vital passages is facing increasing pressure.
🚢 If maritime shipping movements are threatened, the repercussions could extend to the energy markets and global supply chains as a whole.$BZ
