The old dog took a look: over the past 24 hours,
$BNC has risen 2.047%, and the price is now at 6.43. The funding rate during the same period is zero, and open interest remains around 2.275 million. A rising asset with an unchanged funding rate—this in itself is a signal.
For the underlying logic behind this push higher, I believe it is a liquidity repricing by the on-chain perpetual contracts market for a TradFi underlying. A zero funding rate means neither the long nor the short side is willing to pay the other for fees; the market is at a short-term equilibrium. Prices are probing upward, but longs have not become so crowded that they need to pay—suggesting this is not a one-sided, emotion-driven impulse rally. There are no new announcements or news to explain this move. Combined with its EQUITY attribute and how it’s categorized by sector, it looks more like an endogenous price discovery event driven by liquidity. Without a sector beta comparison, this move by
$BNC looks relatively independent.
My view is that this zero-fee plus gradual-rising structure is, in the short term, healthier. The market often says, “When it’s up, watch the fees.” If the funding rate doesn’t rise, it suggests leveraged longs haven’t been piled up, so the risk of being squeezed is temporarily lower. But this also implies a lack of large-scale mainstream capital chasing; the durability of the rally is questionable. Next, if the price can hold above 6.43 and lead to a clear increase in open interest, while the funding rate turns positive, then we can confirm that incremental capital is coming in to take the other side. Otherwise, it may just be existing liquidity entertaining itself.
If the price turns and breaks below the current 6.43 level, my judgment would fail. That would mean the liquidity repricing attempt has failed, the zero-fee equilibrium has been broken, and the market may shift toward a bearish stance. In terms of action, I choose to observe—wait until the price makes a clear directional choice around 6.43. If it breaks below, I will stand by.
