Scammers repeat the same tricks — and most traders fall for them.
Here’s how to spot a scam before it rugs you

1/ Manufactured Momentum
Most rugs start with fake volume.
Bots spam buys and sells from the same wallets to print a perfect growth chart.
If the project gained thousands of “holders” overnight but only a handful of unique wallets are active, you’re staring at a façade.
2/ The Exit-Liquidity Playbook
The endgame is simple: create hype → lure retail → drain liquidity.
Check whether LP tokens are locked on Unicrypt/PinkSale and for how long.
Anything under three months? Assume the team is already scheduling the heist.
3/ Synthetic Order Books
Duplicate trades at identical prices are a tell-tale sign of scripting.
On a real market, price quotes slip as demand changes.
If the chart is dead-flat between surges, you’re watching an illusion.
4/ Liquidity Whiplash
Snapshots matter.
A 20–40 % LP drop in minutes almost always precedes a rug.

5/ Wallet Constellations
Run a BubbleMaps or deBank scan.
If the top five wallets own >15 % each, forget decentralization — one panic sell will nuke the chart.
Bonus red flag: linked wallets funding each other in a loop.
6/ Instant Top-Listing Mirage
Fresh coin suddenly #1 on Dexscreener? Cross-check socials, GitHub, Medium.
A legit project leaves breadcrumbs long before launch.
Silence + top spot = paid wash-trading.
7/ Telegram Theater
Scroll the chat history.
Are 90 % of messages generic hype (“Next 100×!”) with no questions answered? Real communities debate fees, audits, roadmaps.
Bots only moon-chant.
8/ Social Vanity Metrics
Twitter followers mean zero if engagement is fake.
Check: replies ÷ followers.
If an account with 50 K followers nets 30 likes, engagement is <0.1 %—bot farm detected.
9/ Contract Backdoors
Always open the verified code on Etherscan.
Search for: ownerOnly, blacklist, setTax, mint.
An upgradable proxy plus unlimited mint = the dev can print supply and dump on you tomorrow.
10/ Audits ≠ Safe
Scam teams buy $500 “snapshot” audits that skip runtime tests.
Look for a full audit report with manual review, unit tests, and findings resolved.
No PDF, no trust.
11/ Final Alpha
Memecoin seasons come in waves.
Skip 95 % of launches, wait for post-hype capitulation, then enter with small size and tight stops.
Rather miss a 100x than bag-hold a zero.
