Introduction

On August 4, 2026, Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, announced the launch of a new lending product called “Lite Loan.” The product directly addresses a significant gap in the crypto-backed lending market. According to a study by digital lender Ledn, cited by Binance, 88% of cryptocurrency holders consider borrowing against their assets, but only 14% actually do so. The main reason is fear of forced liquidation due to price volatility and the complexity of existing products.

Binance Vice President of Product Jeff Li said: “Lite Loan is designed for users who want access to liquidity without the complexity that usually comes with borrowing crypto.”

What is Lite Loan?

Lite Loan is a small loan secured by Bitcoin. Eligible users can pledge Bitcoin (BTC) they hold on the platform and borrow up to 1,000 units of the stablecoin USDT in return.

The product is designed not to finance large projects, but to cover small, short-term needs—such as quickly accessing liquidity for trading, paying an unexpected bill, or spending through Binance Pay—without having to sell your Bitcoin and miss out on potential future price gains.

How does Lite Loan work? A step-by-step guide

Compared with Binance's traditional Flexible Loans, the product uses a very streamlined mechanism.

1. Collateral:

The only collateral currently accepted for Lite Loan is Bitcoin (BTC). One unique feature is that Bitcoin already deposited in Simple Earn Flexible can be used as collateral. This means your Bitcoin continues to earn daily returns through Simple Earn during the loan term—a feature not offered by most loans on other platforms.

2. Loan amount:

The maximum loan amount is 1,000 USDT per application. This fixed limit is designed to keep the product in the low-risk, small-loan category.

3. Loan term and fees:

The initial loan term is 30 days. No daily interest is charged during this period; instead, a one-time service fee is deducted upfront.

- Standard fee: 1% of the loan amount.

- Promotional fee: just 0.5% until September 3, 2026, as part of the launch campaign. For example, if you borrow 1,000 USDT, you'll pay a 5 USDT fee and receive 995 USDT net, available for immediate use.

4. Usage:

Once approved, the borrowed USDT is deposited into your Funding Wallet. You can immediately transfer it to your Spot Wallet for trading, or use it directly at merchants that support Binance Pay.

Key feature: 30 days of protection from liquidation

This is what sets Lite Loan apart from any other loan on Binance. With traditional loans, if Bitcoin's price falls, the loan-to-value ratio rises and the collateral is automatically liquidated.

With Lite Loan, Binance has eliminated price-triggered liquidation entirely during the first 30 days. No matter how much the price of Bitcoin falls during this period, your collateral will not be touched. This removes borrowers' biggest concern and means they don't need to monitor the market constantly.

What happens if you don't repay?

It's important to understand exactly what happens after the initial term ends.

Late period (days 31–60):

If you don't repay the loan within 30 days, it automatically becomes overdue. At this stage:

- Interest starts accruing at a high annual rate of 36%.

- Liquidation risk resumes. A margin call threshold is set at an 85% loan-to-value ratio, and the liquidation threshold is 91%.

- If the ratio reaches 91% due to a continued decline in Bitcoin's price, some of your Bitcoin will be automatically sold to repay the debt.

Final liquidation stage:

If the loan remains overdue for more than 30 additional days (60 days in total from the start of the loan), Binance will liquidate all remaining Bitcoin collateral to cover the amount due and accrued late interest. Any surplus will be returned to your account.

Who can use Lite Loan?

The product is currently available through the Binance website and app to eligible users in supported regions who have completed identity verification (KYC). No paperwork or credit history is required—the digital collateral is the only requirement.

The difference between Lite Loan and Binance's traditional Flexible Loans

Loan limit: Lite Loan is capped at just 1,000 USDT, while traditional Flexible Loans can reach millions of dollars.

Accepted collateral: Lite Loan accepts only Bitcoin (BTC) as collateral, while Flexible Loans accept Bitcoin, Ethereum, and more than 20 other cryptocurrencies.

Liquidation during the first 30 days: Lite Loan stands out because there is no liquidation due to price declines during the first 30 days—this is the product's defining feature. With Flexible Loans, however, liquidation can occur immediately if the collateral's price falls to a certain level.

Interest and fees: Lite Loan charges a one-time flat fee of 1% of the loan amount, while Flexible Loans accrue variable interest hourly.

Loan term: Lite Loan has an initial term of 30 days, with an additional 30-day grace period if the loan becomes overdue. Flexible Loans have no fixed term as long as interest is paid.

Risks and considerations

Despite its protective feature, it's important to understand that Lite Loan is still a loan secured by volatile collateral. The 36% annual late interest rate is very high, and liquidation becomes inevitable after 60 days if you don't repay. Also, because your Bitcoin is locked as collateral, you can't sell it during the loan term to benefit from a price increase unless you repay the loan first.

Technical summary

Lite Loan represents a strategic shift for Binance from being simply a trading platform to becoming a comprehensive financial Super App designed to make digital assets usable in everyday life. It turns Bitcoin from a passive investment asset into an immediate source of liquidity, while allowing users to retain ownership of the asset and continue earning from it.

Before using the loan, make sure it complies with Islamic Sharia law.
