$BTC There hasn’t been a major drop, but does that mean the coins in your wallet are definitely safe? This Ledger investigation is a reminder to pay attention to where you buy your device.

Ledger’s official support account confirmed that it is investigating reports of financial losses from Southeast Asian users who bought devices from CryptoBilis. It has asked the reseller to suspend sales and shipments as a precaution. Chinese-language reports today say CryptoBilis has suspended sales of hardware wallets from all brands at its stores and through online channels in Malaysia, the Philippines, and Indonesia.

Ledger has advised users who bought devices from this reseller in the past 90 days not to initialize them if they haven’t been set up yet. Those who have already set them up may consider transferring their funds to a new signing device with a new recovery phrase. The sales suspension is a measure taken while the investigation is ongoing; it does not mean that all Ledger devices have a vulnerability.

At 19:55 Beijing time, Binance BTC perpetuals were down about 0.4% over the past 24 hours. These market figures don’t tell us whether a device is safe. This time, I’m more concerned about where the device was purchased.
