Today (9/23), Singapore fintech Reap and Visa officially announced an expanded partnership: using Reap’s card-issuing infrastructure, the stablecoin-linked Visa credit card program will be rolled out to 100+ markets worldwide—covering Asia-Pacific and Latin America first, then expanding to EMEA and Africa.
Hard facts first:
1️⃣ Role: Reap is a fintech that claims to be the first in the Asia-Pacific region to partner with Visa, issuing global stablecoin credit cards at scale. Its infrastructure covers authorization, processing, compliance, and operations—so partners don’t have to build an additional layer from scratch.
2️⃣ What it can do: Stablecoins can be used as funds/collateral, to pay off card balances, and to support cross-border business expenses. The card itself still runs on Visa’s global acquiring network (officially described as 175 million+ merchant locations).
3️⃣ Visa network-side background (not some newly invented number today): the annualized settlement run rate for global stablecoin payments is about $20 billion (year-on-year about 15×), with more than 160 stablecoin card projects. Artemis scope: stablecoin card project CAGR ~106%, compared with P2P ~5%.
4️⃣ Settlement: Reap is already a Visa Asia-Pacific stablecoin settlement partner; obligations can be settled directly with stablecoins—claiming it can bypass traditional bank end-of-day/weekly weekend windows and reduce large pre-funding. Specific liquidity gains depend on each project’s structure and local regulatory rules.
5️⃣ Not rolled out yet: multi-currency stablecoin card capabilities are planned. Agentic commerce (AI agents performing authenticated payments within user-defined parameters) is described as “exploration,” not a launched product. Local licenses and compliance are still the gatekeepers.
One-sentence perspective: this is expanding card-issuing infrastructure, not the “nationwide bank issues $SoFiUSD to launch card clearing/settlement” from SoFi×Mastercard, and it’s also not just a rehash of Visa’s $20 billion ARR. Announcing ≠ every market can issue cards immediately.
