Non-farm private sector jobs in the United States increased only slightly during August, according to data from the “ADP” foundation released today Wednesday, indicating that the hiring pace in the U.S. labor market continues to slow.

The data showed private-sector jobs rose by about 38,000 jobs in August, compared with expectations of an increase of 47,000 jobs.

The new reading also came in below the level recorded in the previous month, which was 46,000 jobs, reflecting a slowdown in job growth among U.S. companies in recent period.

ADP data is particularly important as one of the indicators monitored by investors and markets to assess the strength of the U.S. labor market, especially as government jobs data—broader in scope—is expected to be released later this week.
