Their strategy has been "to lay down and earn" for DECADES; however, that play is now going in the complete opposite direction- $ETH
There are Three (3) Components to Their World-Wide Game Plan:
1. Borrowing low-cost Yen - Interest rates are nearly 0% in Japan!
2. Exchanging into U.S. dollars and investing into U.S. stocks or bonds (earn on high-interest rates + appreciation of Asset Value).
3. BIG bucks! Even Warren Buffett has taken advantage of this tactic!
However, NOW Everything has Changed. The Playing Field has been COMPLETELY Revamped!
The Fed has begun lowering interest rates while, for the first time in over 20 years, the BOJ has increased rates! Therefore, the interest rate differential between both is getting DOOLOW and therefore the opportunity for "lying down to earn" arbitrage has ALL but vanished.
This means... To pay back the Yen Loans, they will probably have to start Liquidating U.S. Stocks and Bonds in MASS to convert back into Yen!
