The memecoin named HERO has been gaining significant attention in the past few days, created to honor the man who assisted in disarming one of the two attackers during the violent incident at the Hanukkah celebration in Sydney, Australia, last weekend.
This token surged to a market value of 1.7 million USD in a short period, with the team behind the project announcing that all fees from creators would be used to assist those affected by the incident.
HERO was launched to assist the victims at Bondi.
Projects from civil society united after the bombing incident at Bondi Beach on Sunday, which resulted in 15 deaths and at least 42 injuries.
An individual known as DefiANT on X launched the HERO memecoin to honor Ahmed al-Ahmed, a 43-year-old fruit shop owner who successfully disarmed one of the perpetrators in the incident.
According to DexScreener, HERO operates on the Solana platform and currently has a market value of 180,000 USD. This memecoin was created through Pump.Fun and reached a peak of nearly 1.7 million USD. Although the memecoin was launched on the same day as the attack, the original developers abandoned the project and ceased development later.
After that, the user community collectively took care of this token, with DefiANT becoming the main driving force, and HERO developed into a fully community-driven project, allocating all income to assist the victims.
In addition to the token, the team also launched a GoFundMe campaign in parallel to raise funds for those affected by the incident.
According to the fundraising page, nearly 40,000 people contributed, raising over 2.3 million USD, with a target set at 3.1 million USD.
The official HERO website states that donations will be distributed to victims in several rounds, and DefiANT has also confirmed on social media that it has already donated 47,000 Australian dollars to those affected by this attack.
