A 23-year-old man, known as the "Crypto King," was arrested in Cavite for allegedly running a multi-million peso cryptocurrency scam, defrauding victims, including police and media personalities, by promising double returns on investments but using the money for gambling.

Authorities estimate his total scams to be between P500 to P600 million, and the suspect is currently in CIDG custody at Camp Crame.

Three years ago, Taylor Swift agreed to a $100 million (P5.7 billion) sponsorship deal with crypto exchange FTX. The deal did not push through as FTX backed out due to the high price tag.

The deal’s cancellation ultimately benefitted Taylor Swift as the exchange went bankrupt.

Numerous celebrities, such as Tom Brady and Shaquille O’Neal, who endorsed the exchange were involved in a lawsuit after.

BitMine Chair Tom Lee has warned that digital asset treasuries (DATs) are “running out of steam” as valuations collapse.

Many DATs now trade below their net asset value (NAV).

Once compared to Michael Saylor and Strategy’s Bitcoin playbook, these firms are struggling to sustain investor confidence despite holding billions in crypto reserves.

Lee’s own firm, BitMine, holds over 3 million ETH, but even he admits that balance-sheet crypto alone may no longer drive long-term value, a sign the DAT era may be fading as ETFs and sovereign funds take the lead.

ChatGPT started trading crypto on Hyperliquid on October 18. 4 days later, the AI model had lost 65% of its capital.

Alpha Arena, the AI trading competition, by AI research firm Nof1, pits several chatbots against each other. Each AI is given $10,000 in real money to trade on Hyperliquid.

Six models participated: DeepSeek, Claude, Grok, Google Gemini, Qwen (Alibaba), and ChatGPT.

So far, only DeepSeek and Qwen have decent profit at 10% returns, with the other models either breaking even or deep in the red.

Google Gemini’s portfolio is also in trouble, having dropped over 50% in just 4 days.

Grab is entering the Web3 world.

Under a signed MOU with StraitsX, Grab will explore creating Web3 wallets and a stablecoin-based settlement layer for Asia.

The initiative aims to develop a Web3-enabled wallet within the Grab app and a stablecoin-based payment network.

This new Web3 payment network could solve mass inefficiencies across Southeast Asia, where the costs of cross-border remittances remain high.

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) confirmed that it is reviewing multiple proposals to launch stablecoins in the country.

Speaking in Hong Kong last November, BSP Deputy Governor Zeno Abenoja added that a majority of proposals are for US dollar-backed stablecoins, with a handful of PHP-based options.

The Deputy Governor noted how the BSP has seen stablecoins’ benefits in terms of efficiency. However, the regulator is being cautious and is watching what other players are introducing.

The comments came in a few days before the release of Project Bayani—a report co-authored by PDAX on the potential of tokenization in the country.
