Nillion: Computing on Data Without Exposing It
Most computers need access to your data to process it. But what if they could use your data without actually seeing it? That’s the idea behind Nillion.
Think about private trading strategies, AI agents working with personal information, or medical records. You want these systems to do their job without exposing your sensitive information.
That’s where Nillion comes in.
Nillion is a decentralized network focused on blind computation, allowing certain operations to happen without revealing the original data to individual processing nodes.
How does it work?
Nillion uses privacy technologies like Multi-Party Computation (MPC), Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE), and Zero-Knowledge Proofs (ZKPs). It splits data into mathematical shares and distributes them across independent nodes, so no single node has enough information to reconstruct the data alone.
Its ecosystem includes nilAI, nilDB, and nilVM for different data, AI, and computing needs.
What about storage?
nilDB is designed for sensitive data, including numbers, text, and structured information. The free tier offers 100MB per node, with a maximum of 16MB per record. More storage may be available through paid options.
Developers can prepare data using tools like the SecretVault SDK, split it into shares, and distribute those shares across nodes. Authorized retrieval allows the original data to be recovered. Python and TypeScript SDKs and no-code tools make development easier.
Where can it be useful?
Nillion could support private DeFi trading, confidential transactions, AI agents handling sensitive information, healthcare, secure messaging, and key management.
The
$NIL token supports computation fees, staking, and governance.
Privacy shouldn't make data useless.
Nillion is working toward a future where data can be useful without being unnecessarily exposed. As AI and onchain applications grow, this kind of privacy could become increasingly important.
