EIP-8361 Proposal Sparks Panic in the LSD Sector;
$LDO Plunges 16.3% in a Single Day,
$ETHFI Falls 9.6% as It Follows, and the Entire Liquid Staking Track Faces Collective Pressure.
Key Highlights at a Glance๐
๐ป Proposal Content: EIP-8361 Suggests That When Ethereumโs Total Network Staking Rate Reaches 50%, Validator Rewards Should Be Set to Zero
๐ป Logical Contradiction: The Higher the Staking Rate, the Lower the RewardsโIn Essence, This Is Meant to Curb Excessive Centralization
๐ป Market Reaction: Liquidity in the LSD Sector Is Quickly Drained, and Panic Sentiment Spreads to
$ETH Why Does This Proposal Have Such Big โKilling Powerโ?
Once the staking rate breaks through the 50% threshold, it means more than half of all ETH is locked in validator contractsโmaking network security too strong (which, for Ethereum, is actually a problem). At the same time, a large amount of ETH exits circulation, increasing worries about selling pressure. The proposal tries to force a hard stop with a โzero-rewardsโ mechanism, but this is fatal to LSD protocols like Lido and ether.fiโthe foundation of their value is staking yield.
In the short to medium term, sentiment in the LSD sector has already weakened. Itโs recommended to closely monitor developments in discussions at the Ethereum core developers meeting (ACDE). If the proposal enters the official EIP process, LSD TVL may continue to face pressure; if it gets shelved, it could present a window for an oversold rebound.
Do you think this proposal will ultimately get implemented? Or do you believe itโs just another round of proposal noise?
