Bitwiseโs top pick: U.S. spot NEAR ETF. After
$NEAR surged 160% in a month, institutions move in
Bitwiseโs NEAR spot ETF has begun trading on NYSE Arca. This is the first NEAR spot ETF in the U.S. According to Cointelegraph, at the time of the product launch, NEAR had already risen more than 160% over the previous month, and on-chain activity was heating up in parallel.
The significance lies in the fact that NEAR is a smaller-cap public blockchain. Previously, U.S. spot ETFs mainly revolved around top-tier assets such as BTC and ETH. Bitwise choosing NEAR as the inaugural underlying asset may indicate that institutions are starting to offer a clearer allocation path for smaller-cap tokens with โhigh growth + high activity,โ rather than focusing only on large-cap coins.
From a fundamental standpoint, NEARโs core narrative has long centered on scalability and the developer ecosystem. After the ETF goes live, traditional capital can participate in NEAR through more familiar channels without needing to directly hold on-chain assets. This could lower the participation barrier for some investors and possibly improve expectations for NEARโs liquidity.
However, the risks are also obvious. NEARโs short-term gains have already been substantial, and once the ETF launches, profit-taking is not out of the question. Smaller-cap tokens naturally experience higher volatility, and the pace of capital inflows may be less consistent than BTC or ETH. If subsequent net inflows fall short of expectations, the pressure for a price pullback could be greater.
Whatโs worth watching next is more than just the initial momentum: the ETFโs actual capital flows, whether NEARโs on-chain activity continues, and whether the price can maintain active trading at elevated levels. If youโre keeping an eye on NEAR, in the short term itโs more important to watch for confirmation of fund inflows after the ETF launch than to simply chase the rally.
