This unusual situation is known as heteropaternal superfecundation. It happens when a woman releases two eggs during the same ovulation cycle, and each egg is fertilized by a different man within a short time period.
As a result, twins are conceived in the same pregnancy but have different biological fathers.

For many years, the twins believed their father was a man named James. However, Michelle had doubts due to a lack of physical resemblance.
Later DNA testing revealed the truth:
James was not the biological father of either twin
Michelle’s biological father was a man named Alex, a relative of one of their mother’s friends
Lavinia’s biological father was later identified as Arthur
The results completely changed their understanding of their family history.

The story was shared on BBC Radio 4’s The Gift. Tragically, the DNA results arrived on February 14, 2022—the same day their mother passed away, leaving many questions unanswered.
Since then:
Lavinia has built a close relationship with her biological father, Arthur, meeting him regularly and describing it as finally finding a sense of belonging
Michelle has also connected with her father, Alex, although their relationship has been more distant due to his personal struggles
