No matter what market cycle or market situation we’re in, there’s always one question people keep asking:
What should we do with our old holdings?
When will alt season arrive?
When will altcoins finally rise?
I want to answer this based on my own experience, my perspective, and how I personally approach buying and holding altcoins.
Why Are People Stuck With Altcoins?
The biggest reason people are stuck holding altcoins is influencers.
Influencers constantly share different coins based on their own research and sometimes paid promotions. Their followers listen, and that’s how people end up buying those coins.
If you’re holding an altcoin today, there’s a 90% chance you bought it because someone else talked about it.
It could be a friend.
It could be an influencer.
It could be a video you watched where someone said, “This coin will go up.” And now, you’re holding it.
The Coin Isn’t Always the Problem
Here’s something important: The problem isn’t always the coin itself. The real issue is how decisions are made.
Today, there are far more content creators than actual traders or investors. Content creators need to post daily to keep their channels alive. That’s their job.
But when people blindly follow these recommendations, they often end up stuck.
The lesson is simple: Stop listening to others blindly.
Can Your Altcoin Really Stand Out?
The crypto market has evolved a lot. There are thousands of coins now.
If you’re buying an altcoin for the long term, ask yourself one question:
With so many coins flooding the market, can this one really stand out?
Take Ethereum as an example.
It’s the second-largest coin in the market, yet it still hasn’t broken its all-time high in the past four years. It’s still around 30–40% below its peak.
If even Ethereum struggles, what does that say about most altcoins?
Supply Unlocks and Price Pressure
Another thing people ignore is token supply.
Many altcoins launch with limited circulating supply. Over time, more tokens get unlocked team tokens, VC tokens, ecosystem tokens.
That extra supply creates constant selling pressure, which keeps prices down.
Altcoins Depend on Narratives, Not Value
Most altcoins don’t move because of real adoption or revenue.
They move because of narratives.
AI, gaming, memes, Layer 2s every cycle has a story. Money flows where attention goes, not where fundamentals are strongest.
The problem is that narratives change fast.
By the time retail buys in, the narrative is usually already priced in.
If your investment depends on a story staying hot forever, that’s not investing that’s hoping.
Altcoin Gains Are Short-Lived
Altcoins don’t give you unlimited time.
They move fast, and they dump faster.
Most people don’t lose money because they bought bad coins they lose money because they don’t sell when price gives them the chance.
Everyone waits for “a little more upside.”
The market doesn’t wait.
If you don’t have a clear exit plan, the market will decide one for you.
Liquidity Matters More Than Fundamentals
This is something most people ignore.
Price doesn’t move because a project is good.
Price moves because liquidity comes in.
When liquidity leaves, even the best projects bleed. The best fit example right now is Ethena (ENA) , The fundamentals are really strong and good on this project but price is around its all time lows.
Right now, liquidity is fragmented across thousands of coins. That’s why sustained alt seasons are becoming harder.
Without strong and consistent liquidity, long-term holding becomes a losing game.
Content Creators vs Investors
This is something you must always remember: Content creators are not investors.
They are not risking their own capital the way you are. Their job is to create content, not protect your money.
Just because someone talks confidently about a coin doesn’t mean they’ve invested heavily in it. They might have put in a very small amount while you’re putting in everything.
My Personal View on Altcoins
From my personal perspective, investing in altcoins right now is not the best idea.
New coins are launching every day. Liquidity is getting spread thinner and thinner. Most projects won’t survive long term.
If you want to hold something long term, Bitcoin is the only asset that truly deserves that position.
Everything else should be traded, not held blindly.
If you’re already stuck with an altcoin, I can’t tell you what the best move is right now.
But for the future, do your own homework.
Learn how the market works.
Invest only when you truly know what you’re doing.
You’ll learn more from mistakes you make yourself than from blindly following others.
Good Luck & Keep Learning
