📰 They just said they’d do an airdrop, but suddenly it’s now coming out weekly—what is Binance’s XRP RLUSD campaign really aiming for?
Binance announced that starting September 25, it will distribute XRP every week to users holding RLUSD. The campaign will run for nearly a month, totaling $800,000 worth of XRP. This isn’t a one-time airdrop; instead, it’s weekly payments to big RLUSD holders every Friday—effectively breaking the airdrop into 30 smaller “welfare” drops.
Why is this news important?
The core reason is that Binance wants to stabilize the RLUSD product. RLUSD is Binance’s in-house stablecoin, but recently XRP’s price has fallen hard, dragging RLUSD down with it. Holders are losing money, and the product’s appeal drops. By handing out XRP rewards weekly, Binance is essentially “adding insurance” to RLUSD—buy it and you can get a bit of spending money every week, which at least slows user outflows.
In terms of the industry cycle, the crypto market right now is a game of limited resources. Any campaign that can keep users is timely rain. The regulatory environment also puts pressure on stablecoins—especially in the U.S., where compliance requirements for stablecoins have been getting stricter lately. This move by Binance also looks like it’s doing advance homework. If you connect it with recent other events, it lines up perfectly with XRP dropping to around $1.5. Binance’s operation can conveniently boost both its own stablecoin and the XRP price.
Impact on the market
There’s no direct impact on BTC/ETH prices—it’s more of a small-cap market type of news. But from the market structure perspective, Binance is using this ongoing “benefits” approach to paint a bigger picture for RLUSD users, meaning Binance doesn’t plan to give up on the product in the near term. On fund flows, although $800,000 isn’t much for the overall market, it can slow the outflow of funds from RLUSD. Historically, similar events—like Ethereum’s early airdrop—also used sustained rewards to tightly bind early users.
How to think about it
💡 I think this is Binance maintaining user relations, and it supports the bullish view on RLUSD—but that support is limited. If XRP can hold above $1.7, this rewards campaign can continue to attract new users. But if it falls below $1.5, Binance may need to sweeten the rewards to maintain its user base—at that point, the logic would break down.
