According to data from 2022, about 58% of Solana's validators are controlled by the top 10 largest validator groups. This centralization means that a small number of entities hold the power to validate transactions and make key decisions for the network, undermining the idea of decentralized governance.
The most glaring example of the issues that arise from Solana's centralized governance structure came in 2021, when the network suffered multiple downtimes due to validator failures.
