One of the scariest stories in crypto!

In 2022–23, during the boom in airdrops and activities on Discord and Twitter for projects in their early launch stages, we created lots of content and posts about projects! There were so many activities, and everyone stood out however they could to qualify for rewards for their participation! We followed various Twitter accounts, reposted content, and wrote articles! After a while, a project would announce an airdrop for everyone who had participated! Around the same time, scammers would ramp up their schemes—and I fell for one!

The story itself: It was early morning, and I woke up to a Twitter push notification. A project I had participated in tagged my username and shared a link to claim a reward (at the time, I thought it was all real).

In reality, scammers had created an exact copy of the official account, scraped all its active followers, and sent them a malicious link! Once you click it, you sign a smart contract in your wallet. That smart contract then gives them complete control over your assets.

And that's exactly what the scammers did: in the same second, they drained every kind of token and NFT art! To be honest, the total value of the assets wasn't that high, but the NFTs were sentimental, and some were worth a couple hundred dollars! So I lost absolutely everything that was in my wallet!

⚡ A lesson for everyone: always double-check information several times, and don't interact with any services using your main wallet!
