Fed rate decision this week | SOL searches heat up | I don’t treat probabilities as outcomes or chase rallies

My stance is to protect my position first, then assess the rate decision. Binance Square’s current trending topics include “Only about a 10% chance of a rate hike next time,” while SOL is marked as a Rapid Riser on the Most Searched six-hour ranking. These are facts about market expectations and search interest on the platform, respectively; they cannot be combined to claim that “funds have already poured into SOL.” The Fed’s official calendar confirms that the FOMC meeting is scheduled for October 27–28, with the decision and press conference on the 28th. The decision has not yet been announced. The roughly 10% probability implied by futures prices is a market estimate that can change at any time, not a Fed commitment. I’ve also seen different tracking pages show a roughly 10%–12% chance of a rate hike. The discrepancies reflect update times and calculation methods, so I won’t present any single moment’s figure in this article as a definitive conclusion.

Why is this more relevant to SOL than to stablecoins? SOL reflects both high-volatility risk appetite and expectations for on-chain applications. If rates remain unchanged and the statement is dovish, pressure from borrowing costs and risk discounting could ease, and the market may be more willing to assign higher valuations to growth-oriented networks. If the language is hawkish or there is an unexpected rate hike, funds may first reduce high-beta exposure. But the actual transmission depends on the concurrent reactions of the dollar, bond yields, BTC, and SOL spot prices. A trending topic saying “low probability” alone cannot determine the direction. Farside’s SOL fund table now includes an entry for the 26th, but every fund field is shown as a dash and the automatically calculated total is 0.0; that does not confirm zero subscriptions. The 23rd also has a missing VSOL entry, so the page’s subtotal cannot be treated as complete net flows. Solana’s official status page currently shows the mainnet and RPC as operational, and there is no evidence that the increased search interest is due to a network outage.

How has the market reacted so far? At the time of writing, SOL/USD on Kraken was around $101.49, versus a UTC daily open of about $101.25, and had traded between $99.75 and $102.13 over the rolling 24 hours. The price remains in a narrow range. Rising search interest and a price breakout are not the same thing, and I won’t force a connection between modest price movements and rate expectations. In the short term, I’m using $102.20–$103 as the upside confirmation zone and $100–$99.70 as the downside line of defense. If SOL breaks below $99.70 and cannot reclaim $100 on a rebound, I’ll abandon my relatively steady outlook. Even if it breaks higher first, I’ll also want to see whether BTC holds key levels and whether fund flow data is completed, rather than focusing on a single coin.

If I were trading this myself, I’d currently avoid directional bets and only prepare a small spot long position, with a maximum total allocation of 6% of capital and no leverage. The trigger would be a four-hour SOL close above $103, followed by a retest that holds $102.20, with no rapid reversal in the market reaction after the Fed decision is announced. Once triggered, I’d start with a 3% test position and add only after a second retest confirms the level, up to a maximum of 6%. I’d take half off at the first target of $106, then halve the remaining position again at the second target of $110, using a trailing stop on what’s left. The initial stop-loss is $101.40. If a four-hour candle closes below $99.70, or the rate decision triggers a sharp, broad-based drop in risk assets, I’d close the entire position. If these conditions aren’t met, I’ll stay out and wait. This is only a plan for the future; I’m not implying that I’ve already entered a trade or made a profit.
