According to CNBC, DBi co-founder Andrew Beer said managed futures may counterbalance stocks better than bonds during volatile markets, arguing that bonds have been dead money for a decade. The strategy can take long and short positions across global markets. Beer helps manage the iMGP DBi Managed Futures Strategy ETF (DBMF), which was up almost 19% so far this year as of Thursday’s close, according to FactSet data. NovaDius Wealth Management President Nate Geraci said bonds still have a role in diversified portfolios and cautioned that investors should understand how alternative strategies interact with other holdings. Managed futures funds may outperform in volatile markets but can also underperform for periods.
