🌏 Thailand’s new ETF rules take effect today, adding another piece to the crypto compliance landscape
New rules for SEC-approved Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs in Thailand officially take effect today (October 16): initially, funds may only track these two cryptocurrencies; at least 80% of each fund’s net assets must be invested in the underlying cryptocurrency; and custody must be handled by a Thai-licensed institution.
A reality check first: the rules taking effect doesn’t mean you can buy these products today. Fund companies still have to meet the entry requirements, so don’t chase any so-called “Thailand ETF coins.”
But the trend is worth watching: compliance efforts in Southeast Asia are moving faster than many people expected. From the U.S. and Hong Kong to Thailand now, $BTC and $ETH are gradually making their way into mainstream securities accounts around the world. The growth of these structural entry points is a long-term positive.
As for the market, yesterday’s hotter-than-expected U.S. inflation data sent Bitcoin briefly below 80,000, with nearly $1 billion in liquidations. Today it has rebounded to around 82,400, while Ethereum’s recovery has been stronger (+4.8%). Persistent inflation has pushed rate-cut expectations further out again, so short-term volatility is inevitable.
My take: positive news like this tends to be priced in gradually, rather than triggering one big green candle. Consider trimming on a sharp rally, and watch for support after a sharp drop.
