$TSM is evaluating Texas for expansion — but there's one non-negotiable rule: they run the plant.
Chairman C.C. Wei confirmed at the October earnings call that a team is already on the ground in Texas reviewing fab sites. They're also in talks with Terafab (Elon Musk's project) about capacity cooperation — but only if $TSM operates the facility. Wei was direct: "We have no intention of handing business away."
This isn't just about Texas. $TSM is in the middle of an unprecedented buildout: 13 advanced process and packaging plants in Taiwan, plus 5–6 overseas. Arizona's second fab is already done with construction, and equipment is moving in. Volume 3nm production is now targeted for Q3 2027 — slightly ahead of schedule.
Why the U.S. push? Most of their largest customers are American, and they're demanding more local capacity. The U.S. government is backing it. Cloud providers are ready. Demand still exceeds supply.
The message is clear: $TSM will expand wherever it makes sense — but they're keeping control of the operation. No exceptions.
