Samsung plans to roll out USDC transfers in the Samsung Wallet payment app for Galaxy users in the U.S., meeting the requirements, in the last week of October.
The company said this feature will allow users to send USDC to compatible crypto wallets abroad and transfer money to eligible bank accounts in more than 60 countries, where recipients will be able to receive funds in local currency.
Samsung said the feature will be available on 82 million compatible Galaxy devices in the US, but to access the service, users will need to complete identity verification.
Bastion will provide infrastructure for stablecoin accounts and payments, while Coinbase will act as a sub-custodian through Coinbase Prime Vault.
Samsung also named Solana and Sui as technical partners.
Next, payments in stablecoins online and in stores may appear.
Samsung announced plans to integrate stablecoins into Samsung Wallet during the July Galaxy Unpacked event. At the time, the company did not disclose which stablecoins it would support, who would become its infrastructure partners, or when the launch would take place.
The service will be available only to residents of the United States aged 18 and older using eligible Galaxy devices running Android 13 or later.
Samsung said it will not charge fees for USDC transfers to external wallets, although the receiving platforms may set commissions. Fees will be charged for international bank transfers, with the amount depending on the destination country and the transfer amount. Samsung said that in the future, payments in stablecoins online and in stores may be among the possible features.
Borderless.xyz CEO Kevin Lehtiniitti told Cointelegraph that his company’s network will handle payouts in more than 60 countries, and Bastion provides regulated infrastructure that supports this service.
“Mass adoption was never supposed to start with people downloading crypto apps. It starts with the phone that’s already in your pocket,” Lehtiniitti said.
He also suggested that Apple and Google would roll out similar capabilities for stablecoins, potentially making international money transfers as convenient as sending text messages.
