Winklevoss Asset Services, part of the Winklevoss brothers’ group, filed an S-1 registration statement with the U.S. SEC on October 6 (U.S. time), seeking to launch a spot Zcash ETF on Nasdaq under the ticker WINK. The fund will directly hold $ZEC , with custody provided by Gemini Trust, also part of the Winklevoss group. The annual fee is 0.25%, and Cypherpunk Technologies will serve as a partner in the Zcash ecosystem.
This is the third issuer in the U.S. to apply for a spot Zcash ETF, following Grayscale and Bitwise. Grayscale’s ZCSH is already trading on the NYSE Arca, with a 2.5% management fee—10 times the proposed rate for WINK. The filing also states that Winklevoss Capital Fund, through an affiliate, has expressed non-binding interest in purchasing up to $100 million worth of shares, though it may ultimately buy more, less, or none.
The filing is currently only a preliminary version: several details, including the seed investor and amount, pricing benchmark, and basket size, are still blank. It also gives no launch date, and WINK cannot trade until the registration statement becomes effective.
In the market, as of October 7 at 21:10 (UTC+8), ZEC was trading at around $1,316 on Binance Spot, down about 3.9% over 24 hours, with an intraday low of $1,289.54; $BTC was around $83,380, down about 3.2%.
