With the Mid-Autumn Festival coming, I went out for a meal with an old classmate who works within the system. After one meal, the classmate poured out his grievances. He said that over the past two years, the atmosphere at the unit hasn’t been good—not only in his own unit, but based on what he knows, some of the “sister units” are the same.

Old classmates say: In the past, those leaders—back when they were still at their units—were full of spirit, giving guidance and making plans for the future, with calm, peaceful days and full of hope. They were also fairly kind to their subordinates, and everyone’s emotions were quite stable. Plus, with the outside environment not so good, staff salaries and operating costs still had some assurance. So overall, the work atmosphere in the whole unit was pretty good.

As it turned out, over these past two years, all these leaders suddenly became taciturn—grim-faced, their moods unpredictable—which gave people a feeling of helplessness and hopelessness.

An old classmate was still puzzled at the time, thinking maybe the unit was about to deal with some major matter—or maybe the discipline inspection commission had them in its sights?

Later, when I asked around, I found out—oh, it turned out the leaders’ children had already graduated.

And each of them has a good education, but most of them are just staying at home.
