Vietnam plans to issue its first licenses for crypto asset service providers in 2026 through a government-supervised pilot program.
At present, five companies have passed the initial assessment, but no exchange has yet obtained a final license.
The requirements to be met are quite strict:
๐น Minimum capital of about US$383 million
๐น Information system security standard Level 4
๐น The company must be based in Vietnam
๐น Foreign ownership is capped at a maximum of 49%
๐น Market activities must be carried out through a licensed provider
Impact:
โ Legal certainty for the crypto industry
โ Investor protection could increase
โ Banks and major institutions can begin to enter
โ ๏ธ Competition may be limited because the minimum capital requirement is very high
Vietnam is no longer just a crypto user marketโthis country is starting to build a regulated digital asset market infrastructure.
Regulations may slow adoption, but they can also make growth more sustainable.
