Zcash ($ZEC ), the privacy-focused coin, is one of the strongest movers in the market right now. It runs on zero-knowledge proofs, which allow encrypted transactions, and its supply is capped at 21 million coins. ZEC crossed the $1,000 mark on September 4, after nearly doubling over the previous month, and has since climbed past $1,500.
What's driving it?
ETF access: Grayscale's spot Zcash ETF began trading in late August, so anyone with a brokerage account can now buy it.
Big-name attention: Paradigm co-founder Matt Huang said his firm owns ZEC, and ZEC jumped 23% in a day. This confirmed an existing holding, not a new purchase.
Network upgrade (NU7): Holders voted almost unanimously to cut block time from 75 to 25 seconds, meaning faster confirmations. They also voted to keep the Bitcoin-style halving schedule. The testnet is planned for October 6 and the mainnet target is November 5.
Short squeeze: Traders betting against ZEC were forced out of their positions. Buying back to close those bets pushes the price up even faster.
Is "just hold" good advice?
