🚨 The U.S. moves forward with a temporary ban on the Fed's CBDC until 2030.
The Senate approved a provision by a vote of 89-10 that blocks the Federal Reserve from issuing a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) or digital dollar until December 31, 2030.
This measure is part of a bipartisan agreement reached between the House and Senate in the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act housing bill. The ban was included in the final text of the extensive legislative package.
This means that:
• The Fed won’t be able to issue or create a government-controlled digital dollar directly (not through intermediaries) during this period.
• Private innovation (stablecoins, cryptocurrencies, and open financial networks) is prioritized over a state-controlled digital system.
• The wide bipartisan vote is seen as a win for financial privacy and the crypto ecosystem.
Although temporary (expires in 2030), it represents a significant roadblock to CBDC plans in the U.S. and strengthens the position of stablecoins and decentralized assets.
