Secretary of State Marco Rubio has urged European allies to move beyond rhetoric and take concrete action against Iran as it blocks the Strait of Hormuz.
Speaking after meetings with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Rubio warned Tehran is attempting to assert control over the strategic waterway calling the move “unacceptable” and a threat to global security.
“Everybody says Iran is a threat. Everybody says that Iran can’t have a nuclear weapon … but you’ve got to do something about it,” Rubio told reporters in Rome. “If the answer is no … then you better have something more than just strongly worded statements to back it up.
“The world has to start asking itself, what is it willing to do if Iran tries to normalise control of an international waterway? I think that’s unacceptable.”

“The United States military really hasn’t taken grip of how to fight a war of resistance and it’s unfortunate. We call it the ‘body count fallacy’. We believed in Vietnam the more you kill, the more you’re going to win,” Kimmitt told.
“But we’re seeing the same thing here in how we’re fighting against Iran. We think the more rocket launchers we take out, the more ships we sink, the more military units are destroyed, that some of those pieces of destruction will somehow reach to victory – and it just hasn’t.”

Oil prices jump amid renewed US-Iran fighting in Hormuz Strait, then settle 🚨
Brent crude oil futures jumped as much as 3 percent on Friday, as the US and Iran clashed in the Strait of Hormuz, but the gains were pared back amid optimism of an imminent agreement between Washington and Tehran to end the war.
Brent crude futures settled at $101.29 per barrel, up $1.23 or 1.23 percent, after rising as much as 3 percent during the trading session on Friday.
US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) futures finished at $95.42 per barrel, up $0.61, or 0.64 percent.
John Kilduff, a partner with Again Capital – an investment firm – told the Reuters news agency there is much uncertainty in the market but a belief that an agreement is due.
“We’re on the cusp of a breakthrough in negotiations or we’re on the cusp of a renewal of the fighting. We’ve been here a lot,” he said.
“There is a sense in the market that there is going to be an agreement and we’ll get the next phase which would be 30 days to hammer out an agreement (between Iran and the US),” Kilduff said.
