Tensions in the Middle East have increased again after a missile struck the United States embassy compound in Baghdad early on Saturday. Following the attack, the US embassy issued an urgent warning asking American citizens in Iraq to leave the country immediately due to rising security risks. The warning reflects growing concern that the conflict in the region could escalate further.
At the same time, US President Donald Trump has called on allied countries, including the United Kingdom, to help secure the Strait of Hormuz. In a post on Truth Social, Trump urged nations that rely on oil passing through the strait to take responsibility for protecting the route. He said the United States is working to ensure that the passage remains open, safe and free for international shipping.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important oil shipping routes in the world. A large percentage of the global oil supply moves through this narrow waterway between Iran and Oman. Because of its importance, any threat to the strait immediately raises concerns about global energy supply and oil prices. If shipping through the route is disrupted, it could have serious economic consequences for many countries.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that the waterway is not closed to everyone but suggested that it could be restricted for countries Iran considers hostile. His comments have added more uncertainty to the situation and increased fears of further confrontation between Iran and Western nations.
Meanwhile, attacks across the Middle East are continuing. A drone strike targeted the port of Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates, leaving a large fire burning at the facility. The port is an important location for oil storage and shipping in the region.
Inside Iran, some citizens are also expressing concern about the growing conflict. One man from Tehran told BBC Persian that he disagrees with recent US strikes on Kharg Island, a key Iranian oil export hub through which most of the country’s crude oil passes. He warned that continued escalation could leave Iran badly damaged.
With attacks increasing and tensions rising, many experts believe the situation could affect global markets, oil prices and international security in the coming weeks.
