Ripple is pushing to position Ripple’s ecosystem—especially $XRP and its dollar-backed stablecoin Ripple USD (RLUSD)—as core payment rails for AI agents, in an emerging market still largely dominated by USD Coin.

According to CoinDesk, Ripple recently introduced the XRPL AI Starter Kit, a developer toolkit designed to let AI agents execute and receive payments directly on the XRP Ledger. The kit includes MCP server documentation access, Claude-based skills for wallet creation and payments, and support for x402 payment flows using both XRP and RLUSD.

This move is aimed at positioning XRP Ledger infrastructure as “AI-native” payment rails, where autonomous agents can transact value without traditional intermediaries.

However, early traction in the x402 payment ecosystem is currently concentrated elsewhere—mainly on Base and Solana—with USDC still leading transaction volume and liquidity across those networks.

In short, Ripple is trying to enter a fast-moving AI payments race, but the current momentum is still centered around stablecoin-heavy ecosystems like USDC on Base and Solana.
