US’s Hormuz operation ‘considerably’ increases odds of ‘miscalculation’ 🚨
Alexandru Hudisteanu, a military and diplomatic analyst, says the US’s “Operation Freedom” to force open the Strait of Hormuz has considerably increased the risk of miscalculation from both sides, especially Iran.
Hudisteanu said that by pushing two ships through the strait yesterday, the US “trapped Iran in an escalation situation” in which Tehran attacked third-party countries “out of frustration”.
Each time the US is able to coordinate the passage of more ships through Hormuz, it will “chip away at [Iran’s] image of monolithic control over the strait”, said Hudisteanu. And if that image is chipped away, Iran will “have to deal with the fact that the US wants a permanent resolution to the nuclear file”, he added.
