Trump Warns Iran After Missile Strike on Qatar's LNG Hub
Washington/Doha: US President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to Iran, threatening to "massively blow up" Tehran's giant South Pars gas field if it attacks Qatar again. This comes after Iran launched missiles at Qatar's Ras Laffan Industrial City, the world's largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility, causing extensive damage .
According to Trump, the escalation began when Israel carried out a strike on the Iranian section of the South Pars field—a major energy site shared by Iran and Qatar . In a post on his Truth Social platform, the President claimed the United States had no prior knowledge of the Israeli attack and stated that Qatar was also uninvolved .
"Unfortunately, Iran did not know this... and unjustifiably and unfairly attacked a portion of Qatar's LNG Gas facility," Trump wrote . He confirmed that no further attacks would be made by Israel unless provoked, but issued a direct warning to Tehran: if Qatar's LNG infrastructure is targeted again, the US will destroy the entire South Pars field "with or without the help or consent of Israel" .
QatarEnergy confirmed the attack on its Ras Laffan site, reporting that emergency teams had contained resulting fires and that no casualties were recorded . The Qatari Foreign Ministry condemned the strike as a "direct threat" to its national security and a dangerous escalation, subsequently declaring Iranian military attaches persona non grata .
The attack on the energy hub, which handles about 20% of the world's LNG supply, has raised concerns about global energy security . Meanwhile, multiple media reports have contradicted Trump's claim of US ignorance, citing officials who say Washington had prior knowledge of Israel's strike and approved it .
