Truth Social Lost $400M in Q1 2026 – Thanks to #bitcoin

Truth Social just reported a massive $400 million net #loss for Q1 2026. But here's the twist: it's mostly a paper loss from #bitcoin .

The company, led by Donald #TRUMP , posted $0.9M in revenue** – almost nothing for a multi-billion dollar public company. However, its balance sheet still shows **$2.2B in total assets.

So how can you lose $400M and still hold $2.2B?

The answer is #cryptovolatility .

· TMTG adopted a "Bitcoin Treasury" strategy in 2025, buying thousands of BTC near all-time highs (around $126K).
· Bitcoin crashed to ~$70K in Q1 2026.
· Result: $368.7M of the $400M loss was unrealized – a paper loss from its BTC and crypto holdings.

Without that crypto writedown, the company would have posted a much smaller operating loss.

·TMTG holds 9,542 BTC (worth ~$647M as of March 31)
· Average purchase price is very high → ~$460M in unrealized loss on BTC alone
· Cash from operations: positive $17.9M (4th quarter in a row)

Bottom line:
Truth Social didn't burn $400M in cash. It's a victim of Bitcoin's volatility after an aggressive treasury bet. The company remains solvent, but the loss shows how dangerous a "Bitcoin Treasury" strategy can be – especially for a low-revenue firm.


As one analyst put it: "They bet big on BTC at the worst possible time."
